Annual Portage United Way fundraiser a huge success

We’re happy to be able to contribute to the community, and this luncheon just gets more and more successful every year,” said Gawronsky.

Winnipeg (13 Nov. 2012) - Members and staff of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) served up more than 600 meals on November 7 for what has become one of the union’s longest-running United Way fundraisers.

President Michelle Gawronsky joined fellow MGEU/NUPGE members and Portage residents in a busy legion hall for the seventeenth installment of the MGEU Spaghetti Lunch.

The event raised almost $5,000 for the United Way. The MGEU/NUPGE covered the cost of food and provided volunteers to prepare meals with the generous help of the Agassiz Youth Centre. The Royal Canadian Legion donated the space for the lunch.

“This event has become a staple of the Portage area and the union is happy to be able to work with the United Way to raise funds for the variety of causes they support. We’re happy to be able to contribute to the community, and this luncheon just gets more and more successful every year,” said Gawronsky.
