NSGEU bargaining committee member Mike Thompson says he is positive but wary, about the development. - Updated
Stellarton (17 June 2010) - A conciliation officer has called the Pictou County Shared Service Authority (PCSSA) back to the bargaining table to restart negotiations with employees the agency has locked off the job.
The workers are members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE). They are seeking a first contract.
NSGEU bargaining committee member Mike Thompson says he is "positive but wary" about returning to the table with the employer.
The workers have been locked out since May 31. They have been fighting back by staging high-profile demonstrations and pickets throughout the six municipalities that they serve.
While bargaining continues, the employees remain on the picket lines.
Update
Talks broke down June 17 despite the assistance of a conciliator.
“Going into conciliation, the bargaining committee was hopeful but wary that they could reach an agreement,” said NSGEU president Joan Jessome. “Unfortunately, the glimmer of hope has faded for now (but the) members of Local 60A remain firm in their resolve to achieve a fair first contract."
