Conference Report outlines tricks of privatization industry and tactics to fight back

"Fighting privatization will not be easy. But as we learned during the International Conference on the New Forms of Privatization, it's a fight that we can and will win," says NUPGE National President James Clancy.

Ottawa (08 Dec. 2014) — Less than a month after the conference where a group of Canadian union leaders learned about the rise of a global "privatization industry" pushing to increase the speed and scope of public service privatizations, Ontario's Liberal government proved the point in dramatic fashion. The Ontario governmen which has close ties to the privatization industry, is threatening to privatize thousands of the province's public service jobs.

"Fighting privatization will not be easy, but as we learned during the International Conference on the New Forms of Privatization, it's a fight that we can and will win," says James Clancy, National President of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). "The privateers rely on secrecy to squeeze profits from of our common wealth. We will use a twin-track strategy to shed light on their sleaze, and keep them from sullying our common Canadian values."
