NAPE congratulates Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital in Labrador City

Management, staff and community pulls together to handle hospital evacuation in Labrador City.

St. John's (16 Nov. 2012) - Carol Furlong, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) says management and staff at Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital in Labrador City are to be congratulated for their handling of the unexpected temporary closure and evacuation of the facility last week due to a fire at a nearby building.

“Health care employees have to be prepared for all kinds of emergency situations,” stated Furlong. “Having to ensure the safety of patients in an evacuation and then to ensure the continued care for the long term residents in an off-site environment isn’t an easy task.”

“All management and staff at the hospital, as well as the community at-large, are to be commended for their handling of the situation and for their tremendous spirit of cooperation,” said Furlong.
