NAPE home and youth care workers with Caregivers Inc. reach tentative agreement

“The often understated role of home and youth care workers is an important one in our province’s health care system, easing the burden on our primary care facilities.” — Jerry Earle, NAPE President

St. John's (05 Oct. 2015) — The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has reached a tentative agreement for over 550 home and youth care workers with Caregivers Inc.

NAPE/NUPGE members negotiate monetary and contract language improvements

The tentative agreement is based on the template for the Group of 17 agencies and includes increases in wages as well as improvements in contract language.

“Home and youth care workers play a pivotal role in our province, delivering personalized and high quality care and support while allowing some of our provinces most vulnerable to stay in their homes and communities,” said NAPE President Jerry Earle. “The often understated role of home and youth care workers is an important one in our province’s health care system, easing the burden on our primary care facilities.”

Details of the tentative agreement will be released to members at the ratification meetings, which are currently being scheduled.

Bargaining continues for other home care agencies

NAPE/NUPGE is still in various stages of bargaining with the following home care agencies: Tender Loving Care, South Coast Home Care, All Care Home Support, Angel’s Touch Home Care, Caring Hands Home Care, Placentia Home Care/Home Sweet Home, and In Home Health Care.

“Now that we have a ratified agreement for over 3,000 home care workers with the Group of 17, as well as a tentative agreement in place for this group of workers, we are hopeful that the remaining sets of negotiations will fall into place rather quickly,” stated Earle.
