NAPE reaches tentative agreement with Choices for Youth (The Lilly)

"We can't be more impressed with the campaign you led and the inspiration you gave to others across the country. Thank you for showing all of us what dedication and solidarity really look like." — Bert Blundon, NUPGE Secretary-Treasurer

St. John's (22 April 2022) The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative agreement for members at Choices for Youth (The Lilly).

#Lilly9 win as strike ends

NAPE/NUPGE represents and unites 9 workers at The Lilly, a 14-unit congregate living supportive housing facility for youth operated by Choices for Youth.

“We are very happy to reach an agreement with this employer for this caring, compassionate, and skilled group of mentors,” said Jerry Earle, NAPE President. “The agreement includes a monetary increase, retroactive pay, as well as numerous improvements in contract language.”

“This incredible group of workers stood strong and united; their solidarity and steadfast determination made this agreement happen,” said Earle. “Not once did they lose faith in their team, in the process, or in each other. It was remarkable to see this small but mighty group get stronger as the days wore on. This group embodies what the union movement is all about.”

Workers never felt alone

“We also want to thank the public and our fellow unions for the amazing support over the past month,” said Earle. “This group of workers never once felt like they were on their own.”

"Congratulations to the #Lilly9 on a hard-fought campaign for fairness and respect," said Bert Blundon, Secretary-Treasurer for the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), of which NAPE is a Component union. "It takes courage for a small group of workers in the caring sector to go up against an unreasonable boss. We can't be more impressed with the campaign you led, and the inspiration you gave to others across the country. Thank you for showing all of us what dedication and solidarity really look like."

Details of the tentative agreement will be released to members during the ratification process, which is currently being scheduled.
