NUPGE celebrates Pride Month 2022

“Canada has done some great things for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, like passing Bill C-4. But there’s still work to be done. NUPGE will continue to stand in solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ people and push for equality for all.” — Bert Blundon, NUPGE Secretary-Treasurer

Ottawa (May 31 2022) — The beginning of June marks the annual event of Pride Month, a celebration of the two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) communities. The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) wishes everyone a happy Pride Month and celebrates alongside the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

There is so much to celebrate

“Canada has done some great things for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, like passing Bill C-4,” said Bert Blundon, NUPGE Secretary-Treasurer. “But there’s still work to be done. NUPGE will continue to stand in solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ people and push for equality for all.”

In January 2022, Bill C-4 came into effect. Bill C-4, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (conversion therapy), makes it illegal to advertise, practice, or profit from conversion therapy in Canada and makes it a crime to send a child for conversion therapy outside Canada.

“With 2SLGBTQIA+ rights being rolled back in countries around the world, including in our neighbour to the south, it’s crucial that we stand up and remind each other that such acts of hatred will not be tolerated in Canada,” said Larry Brown, NUPGE President.
