NUPGE solidarity statement on Chilean protests

NUPGE stands in solidarity with the people of Chile, calling the conflict a cautionary tale against income inequality, austerity, privatization and oppression.

Ottawa (25 Oct. 2019) — The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has released a solidarity statement regarding the ongoing protests in Chile. You can read the statement here.

The National Union is deeply concerned about the ongoing violent repression by the Chilean government and military of the legitimate citizens’ protests against decades of failed neoliberal policies and military repression. Chilean peoples are being killed and their human rights violated by the very government that is sworn to uphold these rights.

NUPGE is calling on the Canadian government and the international community to stand with the Chilean students, workers, activists, and all Chileans who are facing violent repression from their own government as they demand a fairer, freer, and more democratic future.
