Winnipeg rally for public pensions planned Aug. 5

'Everyone concerned about the effectiveness of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) programs is urged to participate.'

Winnipeg (2 Aug. 2010) - An important rally to support public pensions is planned this Thursday (Aug. 5) in Winnipeg – coinciding with meetings that Canada's provincial premiers will be holding in the city this week.

The rally is being organized by the Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL) and other major labour federations from across Canada along with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and Manitoba's labour councils and labour coordinating committees.

The goal is to focus as much attention as possible on public pensions while the premiers are in the city.

The rally will take place in front of the Hotel Fort Garry at 222 Broadway starting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

"Everyone concerned about the effectiveness of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) programs is urged to participate in this rally," the organizers say.

"Retirement should not be impoverishment. When the Premiers come to town make sure you're there too!"
