National Representative – Digital Communications and Media Strategist
The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is seeking a full-time National Representative – Digital Communications and Media Strategist to work in our national office in Ottawa.
Role overview
As our National Representative – Digital Communications and Media Strategist, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing comprehensive digital communication strategies across various online platforms to enhance NUPGE’s online presence and advance our goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with a knack for prioritization, execution, and delivery. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of digital media trends and a proven record in enhancing an organization’s digital presence, building engagement, and running online campaigns. Proficiency with video and image content creation is a must.
The role reports to the Director of Communications, Political Action and Campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive digital communications strategies to enhance NUPGE’s presence, promote our goals, increase engagement and drive action.
- Use a mix of media tools and platforms effectively, choosing the right ones for each initiative to maximize reach and impact
- Produce and oversee the creation of engaging content, including videos and images tailored to various platforms and audiences
- Lead online campaigns from concept to completion ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget
- Monitor and analyze the performance of digital and social media activities and campaigns using analytics tools; adjust strategies as necessary
- Stay up-to-date with digital media trends, tools and best practices, and apply insights to strengthen NUPGE’s digital communications efforts
- Collaborate closely with co-workers across functions, fostering a positive working environment and integrating digital communications strategies in a culture of innovation to achieve NUPGE’s goals
- Manage relationships with external digital media suppliers as required
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Digital Media or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- At least 5 years of proven experience in digital communications, social media strategy and management, or a related field, with a solid track record of developing and executing successful online campaigns
- Strong capability in working with digital content, including video and images, from creation to dissemination
- Excellent understanding of digital media tools and platforms, and the ability to select the most effective ones for each campaign
- Proficiency in using social media management and analytics tools
- Knowledge of or a strong interest in progressive politics, the labour movement with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new issues
- Solutions-oriented, self-starter, and results-driven mindset, with the ability to work independently to deliver on multiple projects
- Excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to craft messages that resonate with diverse audiences
- Strong collaborative spirit and a positive attitude with a commitment to working toward common goals
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset
