Bert Blundon and Jason MacLean re-elected to lead the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE)

Fredericton, NB – June 14, 2025 – NUPGE President Bert Blundon and Secretary-Treasurer Jason MacLean have been re-elected to lead the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) for another three-year term, following a decisive vote at the 2025 NUPGE Convention held in Fredericton.

Bert Blundon was acclaimed as President, earning the continued confidence of delegates from across the country. In a heartfelt address, he thanked members for their support and affirmed his deep understanding of the responsibility they entrust to him. “My power comes from you. If I speak with confidence—if I’m listened to on Parliament Hill and in all the places where this work gets done — it’s only because I speak on your behalf. That’s always been very clear to me.”

In a contested race for Secretary-treasurer, Jason MacLean was re-elected with an overwhelming mandate. In his victory speech, MacLean thanked delegates: “Thank you delegates for placing your trust in me. I’m ready to take on the challenging work ahead—in collaboration with all of you, and in unity.”

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to build a stronger national union. In the materials they shared with delegates, they highlighted NUPGE’s strong record over the past three years and their vision for the future. They expressed a determination to continue building a more connected, effective, and inclusive national union. Their shared priorities include strengthening solidarity among component unions, fighting to strengthen and expand public services, advancing workers’ and human rights, and amplifying the union’s voice at every level.

They also took a moment to thank the dedicated NUPGE staff for their hard work, expertise and dedication. 

Honouring a Legacy of Leadership: NUPGE Awards Lifetime Memberships to Larry Brown and Stephanie Smith

The 2025 NUPGE Convention also unanimously voted to honour two giants of the labour movement with Lifetime Membership in NUPGE. Former NUPGE President Larry Brown and past BCGEU President and NUPGE Vice-President at CLC Stephanie Smith were both recognized and celebrated for their years of principled leadership and tireless service to NUPGE members and the labour movement.

Convention 2025  focused on the future of work, public services and rights

The Convention kicked off on Friday, June 13 and has been a powerful forum for delegates to set NUPGE’s direction for the next three years. Resolutions under debate address key priorities including robust public services, the impact of artificial intelligence, workers’ rights, human rights, and the fight for economic justice.
