Canadian Environment Week

June 2 2025

June 1 to 7, 2025, is Canadian Environment Week. This year’s #EnviroWeek theme is #BeatPlasticPollution.

The amount of plastic production and waste has increased dramatically in recent decades. Plastic pollution harms our health and environment. Plastics exposure also has health and safety impacts on the job.

Both plastic particles and added chemicals can negatively impact human health. In workplaces, exposure to plastics, microplastics, and related chemicals pose health and safety risks. This is most obvious in the plastic producing industry, but plastics are used across sectors from construction to textiles to health care.

Health and safety plans need to account for increased exposure to plastics and work to mitigate it.

We need governments and employers to take action to reduce plastics use and pollution to prevent threats to the health of people and the environment.
