Métis CFCS and Michif CFS workers awarded wage parity

Métis CFCS and Michif CFS arbitration results.

May 20 2025

MGEU members working at Métis Child, Family and Community Services (CFCS) and Michif Child and Family Services (CFS) have secured wage parity through binding arbitration.

“This is a victory for our members,” said Kyle Ross, MGEU President. “We’ve said from the start that workers doing the same critical work should be compensated fairly, regardless of which agency they work for. We’re pleased that the arbitrator agreed and recognized the value of our members’ hard work.”

The arbitrator acknowledged the important work done by members in the sector supporting vulnerable children and families under stressful conditions. A new four-year agreement is now in place, retroactive to February 1, 2023, and will remain in effect until January 31, 2027.

Arbitrator Michael D. Werier ordered “fair and reasonable” wage increases for both agencies, as well as an additional maximum step, a one-time automatic step progression and retroactive pay to February 1, 2023, for all those employed as of the date of the award.

“This decision sends a clear message: workers in child services matter and they should be respected, treated fairly and compensated equitably,” continued Ross. “We are also glad to see the decision ensures that workers laid off in April will also benefit from the decision.”

MGEU applauds the courage and solidarity of its members in advocating for fair compensation and drawing attention to the challenges they face in this critical work.
