NUPGE mourns with families and loved ones after Lapu-Lapu Day Festival tragedy

Candles symbolizing mourning and loss.

April 27 2025

On behalf of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), I want to express our deep sorrow following the tragedy at the Lapu-Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver.

We mourn the heartbreaking loss of life, and we send our wishes for healing to all those who were injured and impacted.

NUPGE members grieve alongside the families and loved ones who have suffered unimaginable loss, and we offer our deepest condolences.

We are grateful for the first responders who are providing support and care in this devastating moment.

To the Filipino-Canadian community — many of whom are proud members of the NUPGE family — your pain is immeasurable. That this violent and senseless attack could take place during a celebration makes this moment even more difficult.

Please know that we are with you in solidarity. You are not alone.

I hope you find some comfort in the knowledge that so many across our country are holding you in their hearts.

Bert Blundon,

NUPGE President
