On behalf of the 425,000 members of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), we want to extend our deepest gratitude to Danny Cavanagh, President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, for his unwavering dedication and tireless advocacy for workers across the province and beyond.
For over 45 years, Danny has been a steadfast champion of the labour movement, dedicating his life to fighting for workers’ rights, fair wages, and better working conditions. His deep involvement in politics has been instrumental in shaping policies that protect and support workers, ensuring their voices are heard at every level of government.

As a former member of the National Board of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and his involvement in the Canadian Labour Congress, Danny’s leadership extended beyond Nova Scotia. He has been deeply engaged in national labour issues, advocating for stronger protections for workers across the country. His commitment to addressing the broader systemic challenges facing workers—whether in healthcare, education, or the public sector—has made a lasting impact on the national labour movement.

Over the last four and a half decades, when workers have faced the most difficult challenges, Danny has remained a strong and vocal ally, pushing for better, not just for unionized workers, but for all.
We appreciate his passion, leadership, and relentless commitment to fairness and justice. Danny’s contributions have helped shape the labour movement in Nova Scotia and across Canada, leaving a legacy of solidarity and strength.
Thank you, Danny, and happy retirement!
