March to support Vancouver hospital housekeepers

Trying to negotiate contracts with three employers - Aramark, Sodexo and Compass.

Reid Johnson, president of the Health Sciences Association of British ColumbiaVancouver (9 April 2009) - The Health Sciences Association of British Columbia (HSABC/NUPGE) is participating in a march on Thursday from the Vancouver General Hospital to the offices of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCHA) to show support for hospital housekeepers.

The employees are trying to negotiate collective agreements with three private sector employers hired by the VCHA — Aramark, Sodexo and Compass.

HSABC president Reid Johnson will join other B.C. labour leaders, including Jim Sinclair, president of the B.C. Federation of Labour, to support the workers.

The march starts at 4 p.m. at the Pattison Pavilion on West 12th and ends at the VCHA offices at Ash St. and West Broadway.
