OPSEU supporting Woman Abuse Prevention month

'It is every woman’s fundamental right to live in safety and security in her home and community.'

Toronto (4 Nov. 2010) - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) is encouraging members and the public to use the opportunity to increase personal knowledge of issues related to the safety of women in their homes and the community.

"It is every woman’s fundamental right to live in safety and security in her home and community — free from the threat of violence," says the Ontario Women's Directorate.

"This month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about violence against women and its prevention.  It has been recognized as Wife Assault Prevention Month in Ontario since 1986. In 2005, the name was changed to Woman Abuse Prevention Month."
