Contract ratified as strike averted for members at Westman Lab.
Winnipeg (14 Nov. 2011) - One hundred and twenty members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) employed by Westman Regional Lab voted to ratify the latest offer from their employer, Diagnostics Services Manitoba (DSM).
On Oct. 31, members voted to serve a two week strike notice over outstanding issues at the bargaining table such as workload, length of contract, wages and other monetary items. Westman Lab employees were also being offered less at the bargaining table than was being offered to other laboratory employees who do similar work in Manitoba.
The bargaining committee will be contacting the employer to notify them of the outcome and finalize the agreement before it’s printed and distributed to members. In the meantime, members are encouraged to update their contact information to ensure they receive a copy of the new contract once available.
