Members at UBC Child Care Services give strike notice

In order to provide parents with sufficient time to arrange alternate care for their children, workers will begin job action on March 1.

Vancouver (25 Feb. 2013) - Members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) served 72 hour strike notice at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Child Care Services.

In order to provide parents with sufficient time to arrange alternate care for their children, workers will begin job action on March 1.

Rotating job action will begin on March 1 at the following UBC Child Care Services centres:

  • Little Raven Daycare
  • Lilliput Daycare
  • Owl at the Barn Daycare
  • Pacific Spirit Daycare
  • Summer of '73 Daycare

These rotating job actions will show strong support for the bargaining priorities under negotiation. The union remains committed to negotiating a fair and reasonable new collective agreement that recognizes members’ value, qualifications and responsibilities.
